SONJA MARKOVIC (piano) was born in 1991. in Foca, RS, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
She graduated in piano performance at The Academy of Arts in Banja Luka (the best student of her generation), in class of prof. Nevena Popovic and she also completed master studies at Belgrade Faculty of Music Art (Serbia) with the same teacher. She further studied in Poland in the class of prof. Bogdan Kulakowski (CEEPUS scholarship holder). Sonja won over 50 prizes at various international competitions in Europe. Some of the major ones are: International Competition ”Frederic Chopin” in Roma (Italy), International Competition in Torino (Moncalieri), International Competition “Adilia-Alieva” France, International Competitions in Zagreb (Croatia), Banja Luka, Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Belgrade (Serbia), Moscow (Russia).
She took masterclasses from prof. Jokut Mihailovich, Aleksandra Romanic, Jurij Kot, Emanuel Krasovsky, Vladimir Ovchinnikov. She performed concerts at Banski dvor (Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina), Synagogue (Novi Sad, Serbia), “Artget” (Belgrade, Serbia), SANU (Serbian Academy of Science and Arts, Belgrade, Serbia), Gallery and the main stage of Kolarac hall in Belgrade, where she performed with orchestra of Academy of Arts Banja Luka. She participated in “Open Europe” festival in Moscow and the chamber music festival “Colluvio” with the tour in Graz, Vienna, Munich, Sarajevo, Split, Ljubljana, Belgrade, “Kult” festival in Belgrade, “Kotor Art” festival in Montenegro, “Boljsoj“ Russian Music Festival – Foundation of Emir Kusturica…
Since 2013 she has been performing with the violinist Nastasja Vojinovic with whom she won 3 first prizes at the National competition of Serbia, International Chamber Music Competition Davorin Jenko (Serbia, 2014), “Donne in Musica” International Competition (Serbia, 2014). Playing in the piano duo with Aleksandra Dragosavac she also won 2 first prizes: National competition of Serbia and Davorin Jenko (2014). Sonja was awarded the title of the best student in the Republic of Srpska and the most promising young pianist by the National Society of Musicology. Also, she was awarded a scholarship by the “Milan Jelic” Government Foundation.
In 2017. she earned her second master degree (chamber music) at Faculty of Music in Belgrade with the piano trio with Lidija Paulin and Sonja Vojvodic in the class of professor Ladislav Mezei. The trio won the first prizes at “Davorin Jenko” International Competition in Belgrade 2017, National Competition 2018 (Laureate) and Festival Russian and Slavic music (Laureate), “Viva Musica” in Montenegro (first prize). They performed at the “Sarajevo Chamber Music Festival” and worked with the Manhattan String quartet. She recorded for the RTS Digital Tv, Dragstor 202 Belgrade, Radio Ljubljana.
Sonja is currently studying for her Phd Degree at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade (Serbia) and she works as a piano and chamber music teacher in the music school in Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Also, she participated as a member of jury at the National and International competitions, and her students are recognized as the best award-winning students in the country and abroad.
